In a recent episode of Shel Holtz’s For Immediate Release podcast, Shel talked with Jenn Holzinger, who leads Global Employee & HR Communications at The Dow Chemical Company, about how she was able to use SocialChorus to gain greater clarity into employee behavior.


Shel Holtz: I had a conversation with Greg Shove, the executive chairman of SocialChorus, in his dealings with SocialChorus customers, and in leading an organization that is committed to internal communications. Greg has a lot of exposure to what is going on in the marketplace, and we talked about his views on the state of employee communications, the role that communicators are going to have to play, the skills and competencies that they are going to have to embrace, and a number of other topics. So we’ll get started with that this week and continue it over the next several weeks.

Let’s kick this off with a look at the state of internal communications as Greg sees it right now:


Greg Shove: I think that employee communications is in the process of being reinvented, and I think that leaders and teams involved will need a new set of skills. They will need to be very comfortable in all different media formats, from video to text to notification headlines. They’ll need to be comfortable looking at dashboards and using data to optimize — and not optimize on a monthly basis but optimize on a weekly or even daily basis in terms of their communications programs. And then finally they’re going to have to build out teams that are more decentralized, closer to employees, where localization can drive relevancy.
